ids and name

i have a file that has this type data.

1 abc def
22 hdh skk abb
3 lal ljdn

i am using python(new to python). I think i can use dict and assign those ids as keys. then i can do sort on that. i am getting error in assigning those values to keys. can anyone help. Thanks. really appreciate it.
