IDE(?) tags

I've did a search and couldn't find anything to help me. I'm not sure if they are ide tags, but what i'm trying to do is compile mp3's onto a CD for a friend of mine using songs between each of our collections. Since he uses Windows XP, the tag files show different when in XMMS, WMP, or Winamp. How would I edit these tags so they are all uniform? He's a bit nit picky and i'm tired of using CDs in his car that only hold 12 songs. Can anyone help me?
I have XMMS, Sound Juicer, and MPlayer on the latest version of Fedora Core 5.
I'm really new to it all so you might have to spell it out, but thanks.

What do you mean by displaying different?

Different programs work differently, so if one program displays the information as "<Song Name> - <Artist>" and another shows it as "<Artist> - <Song name>" then you can't do anything to the tags short of putting incorrect information in (putting the song name in the artist tag, for example), but that could cause problems if you need to search using the tags.

And it's ID3, not IDE.

Well I was 2 for 3 then. Sorry. And what I mean is that his do all caps and mine don't. So is there a way to edit them as to the spelling and what not.
