ics setup
i'm trying to set up ics so my xp home system can access the internet through this linux machine.
i have two linksys lne100tx ethernet cards installed. eth1 goes to the cable modem, and eth0 goes to the other computer. i'm able to access the internet from linux machine, but the windows machine gets a dns error. i've tried setting it up via lisa, but no matter what i do, i can't get the two computers to 'see' each other, or at least allow the windows machine to access the internet. i'm using mandrake 9.0. any ideas? |
also, when booting up, linux is unable to initiate eth0. i'm not sure what's wrong here.

Also, have you assigned any IP information to eth0? Are eth0 and the Windows machine on the same logical network( ip addresses in the same network/subnet)? Do you have NAT and IP masquerading enabled on the Linux box? Ryan |

how do i assign ip info to eth0? nat, ip masquerading???? :newbie: |
just use a firewall tool such as firestarter to enable it all, it's really simple when you find out how...! you can do it in three (two maybe) commands but you might as well chuck a firewall in there for good measure as well.

those basic commands....

One firewall tool I really like (which will enable NAT and IP Masquerading for you) is located at:
http://morizot.net/firewall/gen/ You basically click all the options you want to enable and it creates the whole script, gives you instructions on how to load and save it, and secures your system all at the same time. Ryan |
thanks a lot for your help, acid and ryan. i got ics working. i just wasn't setting it up correctly through the control center
anyways, works perfectly now :D |
