Icon Ptrs to Launch Apps on GUI Desktop?

This is probably a real dumb question,

but is there anything in the Linux GUI that corresponds to Windows pointers/icons
that can sit on the Desktop and actually launch large applications?

( I've got ICONs in my pocket and I don't know what to do with them...)

Hi there,

It depends on the environment you are using. In GNOME you can have a launcher file such as I have for starting Monodevelop. In this case its the same as in windows except instead of a shortcut its called a launcher.

Regards
Chris

# man launcher ....

...well it was worth a shot.
Perhaps you can tell me how you actually create a 'launcher':
Is it as easy as in Windows2K?
Gnome still isn't a familiar pet to me...
more like a scarey neighbour's dog.

Right click on the deskop where you will find the Create Launcher. Fill in the requistes giving it a name and browse for the application you want to run. There is type atribute wherein you define whether that is link or whatever. Give it a icon also.

Cripes! It works!

Right click on the desktop!?!? Why isn't THAT in a prominent place on every FAQ sheet?

That is amazing. Thank you.
