ICH9R Raid controller and Dual boot XP/Kubuntu installation

Hello,

I have a Raid 1 on a ICH9R onboard Raid controller and XP on the primary partition and am looking for a method to install Kubuntu 8.04.1 on the other free space however can't see a way to do this as Kubuntu can only see two disks (i.e. seeing the free space as two disk not one raid)

Anyone have any ideas.

p.s. I've been informed that some of my equipment is not combatable with Linux however this is just not ture as it works great when installing it on the primary partition all by itself so its not a combatablilty issue with the hardware.. maybe just the raid controller.

That is a fakeraid controller, here are a couple how-tos for installing ubuntu on fakeraid.

hope that helps.

You need dmraid to recognize the disks as RAID, not separate disks.
Check this out if you haven't already:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto

or the other links in google with "howto raid ubuntu"
There's no reason you can't dual boot xp and Kubuntu; good luck.

Thanks for the help however the dmraid issue on liveCD is a sticking point. I did try the Alternate CD and got to the point of rebooting after the raid is setup. When rebooting i got the message error loading OS. I'm going to be interested in doing this still however right now i'm on a deadline so will use Windows XP 32bit with VMware and install Kubuntu on the VMware server. Bad work around but i have no choice. I know this must be possable so updates would be welcome.

I think if the liveCD came with a software Raid it maybe workable.

Thanks for the help.
