I use Oracle: unlike Fireox/Iceweasel, it never forgets. It puts a key symbol on the menu bar if there's a log-in point anywhere on the page and you just click on that.

um, I'm using ICEWEASEL browser (firefox).
there is no need for master password, as noone else uses my computer.

what's Oracle?

"Oracle" is me having a slip of the keyboard: I meant Opera.

If you want (relatively) secure autologins, get LastPass. It will generate random passwords of any selected length, and optionally autofill logins, or even do a complete automatic login if you prefer. You only have to remember one master password. I haven't seen the problem described, but I assume the answer would be in the settings somewhere. I don't have anything with iceweasel installed available to check at the moment, though.

You probably told iceweasel not to remember the password for Google at some point in the past. From the Mozilla help site:

In the Remember Password prompt:

To have Firefox remember your username and password, click Remember Password. The next time you visit the website, Firefox will automatically enter your username and password for you.
If you've stored the wrong username or password, just type the right one into the website and Firefox will prompt you to save it. To save the new username and password, click Update.
To tell Firefox to never remember usernames and passwords for the current website, click the drop-down menu and select Never Remember Password for This Site. In the future, when you log in to the website you won't be prompted to save the username and password.
If you later change your mind and would like Firefox to ask you to save usernames and passwords for this site, you'll need to remove it from the exceptions list using the Preferences window - Security panel.

To skip saving your username and password this time, click the drop-down menu and select Not Now. You'll be prompted to save your username and password the next time you visit the site.
Iceweasel is Firefox with minor Debian mods.
