i8253 count too high! resetting..
 

Consider me the newest Red Hat user.

I just installed RH 9 onto my laptop which is a AMD 2400+

It installed fine but when it boots i get:

Starting pcmcia: PCI: Enabling device 00:0a.1 (0080 -> 0082)
i8253 count too high! resetting..


i had a search on google and it seems a few people have/had this problem. I had Mandrake on it before and it worked fine. But a have just installed Red Hat on my other computers and would like them to have the same OS.

Remember i am a linux newbie, so be gentle.

I am getting the same error, just installed RH9, running an old Gigabyte GA-5AA motherboard and a K6-2/500. Other data that might contribute to troubleshooting: also have a crappy old Winmodem indthe box that I'm trying to make work, an SB64 PCI sound card, and an SiS 6326 vid card.


Not tuned in to Linux enough to diagnose this,just throwing some more wood on the fire to see what cooks...

the problem for me Gersen was the pcmcia on my laptop. What i did was boot into single user mode:

in grub press 'e' over linux
Select the kernel press 'e' again
type single at the end of this line and press enter
then 'b' for boot.

this got me into single user mode but of course my keyboard on my laptop wasn't reconigsed, neither was an external ps/2. I found a usb keyboard and typed

chkconfig pcmcia off

and rebooted and it worked.

I updated the kernel after that from 2.4.20 - 8 to 2.4.20 -20.9
and restarted the pcmcia, which worked, but then after a while i got the same problem :(. So i just turned it off and left it off.

I had another problem with my ati radeon U1 on my laptop as well, but that's for another thread.

Bazz, would the same apply to a machine that doesn't use any PCMCIA services? I'm running it on a desktop machine, and the configurations of several machines I've read about that are displaying the same issue are desktop machines.

Anyway, will try this when I get home tonight. Thanks for the response!
