i386 :/x86-64 architecture of input file '*.o' is incompatible with i386 output

I am compiling Fortran and C code on a 64 bit processor workstation.
I am using suse 10.3 64 bits system.
when I compile the code, it complains
i386 :/x86-64 architecture of input file '*.o' is incompatible with i386output

But I can do it perfectly on a 32 bits suse 10.3 system before, is it anything to do with the system?

Many thanks

I think your build is trying to build for i386 and yet it should be building for x86-64
