I would like to know how much do you have to pay for the updates.....

How much do you have to pay for the updates if you download and install LINUX/UNIX/Ubuntu? I was just curious because I know you can get the software for free, but does anyone know how much do you have to pay for the updates? Is it a one time deal? Do you pay for the updates monthly? Or do you pay for the updates yearly? If someone can get back to me on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

There are no fees as far as i know, i've never paid anything, and i've gone through 3 version changes or so i think.

A: Free. As in beer :)

It depends. Most versions are free to download and to update. Enterprise versions usually will take money for updates and support.
Ubuntu is in any case free, but you can buy support, if you want. You don't need to if you don't run critical systems, the support on LQ is very good.
