What's your budget?? Hard to recommend anything if we don't know what you're willing to spend. With Dell you want to stick with their business line of laptops which have the model name "Latitude". They are better than the consumer line(Inspiron). Judging from the people I know that do computer repair for a living, the most reliable laptop brands are currently Lenovo, Asus, and Dell Latitudes. They generally don't like HP at all.
