I was unable to set document root for itop tool ....i have copied all the files in to /var/www/ and i was able to see the file copied and then i was unable to open in web browser .could some one help me this out..(Http service is running).and kindly tell if anything i need to change in the configuration file of "httpd.conf"

Are you sure /var/www is your webserver docroot? This is true for Debian based distros.
For RHEL based distros the docroot is /var/www/html.

Thanks for the reply , ya i have copied into /var/www/html and i am using centos ......but same i am not able to process further in the website of the itop tool they mentioned as just copy into document root then you can able to open in web browser and continue the installation,,,,but i am unable to pen in web browser anyhting i need to change in the httpd.conf, if needed suggest me.

What happens if you point your browser at http://localhost/itop
If you think there is something wrong, you can always take a look at apache logs in /var/log/httpd/error_log.
