i want to use suse OS


i posted this words .. in the wrong place b4 .. but when i swa the forum as well .. i think this is the right place .. so this is my words !



anyway .. i have now 5 Cds for Suse ..
and i want to instal it on my pc ...
i have hard disk 60 giga .. and on it 6 partions .. the first one which i have on it XP now is 7 giga .. can i instal the suse on it without loseing the data from all my hard drive ?

my sec Q is .. can i make my conction to the internet when i using the suse OS coz i have only SpeedTouch modem ADSL USB
in the suse can i use it also ?
i have password and user name for this modem with the company which send to me the conction by phone ?

i hope the i can see ur replyies freinds soon .. coz i want to see the Suse !

Yes you can install SUSE on it. BUT make sure you do not install it on the 1st HDD or you'll lose XP . Make sure you use a partition with sufficient space, maybe 10GB or so (have not used SUSE).

To your 2nd question, It'll probably work (no promises though).

look dear i will delete the XP
only for i want to see and use the suse for the first time ..
so its not a broblem loseing the XP
but this partion is only 7 giga .. can i instal the suse on it ???

for my sec Q .. the suse will know my modem ?? or i must Downlaoding driver now b4 instal the suse ?

Yeah you can install it on a 7gb partition, just do not make a "install all" installation or you'll run out of disk space . For you second question, i guess it will work, ive used suse some time ago, (suse 8.1) and it worked for me, i *think* it might also work for you.

My friend and I had big problems with USB speedtouch modem with mandrake 10.0, not sure if we tried suse, however speedtouch don't look like they offer drivers. If i were you, before you make the jump keep XP on there and install suse on say a 5gb partition and see how it goes. You can assign another partition to /home so you can reinstall the suse O/S without losing any stuff you gather together..

Just a thought anyway.. i love suse its a really great o/s but there is a steep learning curve if you're coming from only XP.
