I want to know the best method to put a complete linux on usb hard drive
I'm not really a newbie at all. But I am trying something new. I had Linux on all my computers and ran into a snag. I had to go from one computer to the next to keep them all upgraded!
I want to use a usb hardrive and centralize my linux. What is the best way to do this? I want to use only the very latest version of Ubuntu.
Don't know if this is what you mean: you want to have your Linux installed on a USB harddrive and then boot whatever computer that allows USB booting to start up that Linux?
Then have a look at Unetbootin. I used it to install on USB drive too and works like a charm.
Maybe, on my three computers at least (three different ones) I can boot from my USB drive without any problems. Might depend on what distro too I think. I currently have DreamLinux, LinuxMint and Ubuntu installed on it and all three start on all computers without problems.
Might also be beginners luck since I have never before used a GUI, only servers (mostly Debian). Now I'm looking into some GUI distros to migrate all our Windows workstations gradually to Linux.
