Lightbulb I want to install a minimum Linux on hdc1, it's 50MB only!

I use the command mkbootdisk make a boot floppy.
It can normally boot up.

Then I copy the 4 files(boot.msg&ldlinux.sys&syslinux.cfg&vmlinuz)
to hdc1. But it cannot boot from hdc1.

How can I make hdc1 bootable?

There's nothing on hdc1 before.

I dunno if it'll ever work, but try checking for hidden files, just in case you missed some.

Also, take a look at Damn Small Linux (DistroWatch Info Here ). That claims to be 50MB in size.

Have you looked at Damn Small Linux, that would seem to be your best bet. It has a fully functional desktop etc.

In dos prompt, you can type
sys c: a:
make a bootdisk,
or sys c: d: to make d: bootable

the system files are:
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS
COMMAND.COM

I wanna know what boot up system files are in Linux
and how to make hda1 bootable? thanks!

1.
Thanks to Odd_Bloke !
I have download Damn Small Linux 0.4.1
It's really a cute Linux !
I make a boot floppy then run it.

How can I install Damn Small Linux on hard disk?

2.
I cannot find any hidden files on boot floppy.
the file boot.msg is unnecessary.

How to boot up from hda1, only use the follwoing system files?
ldlinux.sys
syslinux.cfg
vmlinuz
