I Want linux

I've wanted to install linux for a while, but couldn't figure out how to do it. I was thinking is there a busines that you can send your ps3 to that will back up memory, upgrade hard drive & install ydl,or any other linux.

cmnorton 04-10-2009 04:17 PM

Another way?

For the price you would pay there are laptops from vendors with Ubuntu already installed. Also, there are a lot of posts about PS3s. I don't own a PS3, but if it has a CD/DVD drive, you can use a live CD of Ubuntu and image the hard drive to a USB drive. (Buying the necessary equipment should be cheaper than having someone do it for you.)

ive tried looking for a place that sold a ps3 hard drive that already has a linux installed but couldn't find anything

It isn't that hard.

You don't have to pay somebody to install linux on your PS3, nor should it be too difficult for you to change the RAM or HDD. Look at this list of linux live-cds and find one that boots on a PS3 and try it out.

Google and find your place in the flock of the crazed who already have moded and run linux on their machines and are eager to share their plans, advice, and schemes to the furtherment of linux on the PS3.

Try those links. They seem to be full tutorials on how to install it. I've been thinking of installing ydl on my ps3 for some time, however, I don't have enough time to do it. Let us know how it went.

Being lazy is a good motivation for programmers to write programs that make life easier. Unfortunately, system installation is something that needs personal efforts.

With enough money you will found someone soon enough to do the job. Maybe simply check out your local computer dealer or some geek at the local university. Make the job very rewarding in terms of money - to the amount of your laziness.

Paying for Linux installation isnt a good idea unless it is a dedicated web server or similar in terms of production costs and down time costs. If you still want someone else do it for you the first place you should look out for is the local Linux Users Group in your city.
They will happily help you and may not charge the money. But they would definitely like to see some contribution from your side as well.

thank you for the... um help but i will get what im looking for someday. Untill then i'll suffer with this stupid ps3 browser.

linuxlover.chaitanya 04-23-2009 12:18 AM

Well if you can get some efforts to find a local LUG volunteer in your city, you can get your job done pretty fast.
