Depending on your distribution, it probably has a package management system. For instance, Mandrake uses "urpmi", and "rpmdrake" is the gui front end for it. You set up your repositories, and then you can install new/updated applications with just a few mouse clicks.

for sus you get rpm files of the net for gentoo just:
emerge k3b
or whatever you want to install
