Question I/O from serial port

I'm trying to figure out how I can set up a Linux box to listen on the serial port for raw output from my PBX. I was suppose to purcase a serial dot matrix printer that would print out a line each time a call was placed. Should I not be able to configure linux to listen on the serial port and populate a file? TIA

I did something like this years ago, capturing phone records to a Sun box instead of a printer. I can't remember how exactly I did it, nor can I find the script that did the capturing. I do know that it is possible and I think I used stty and regular shell commands to redirect the input to a file. A simple c program would also do the job.
