Ah your better off asking here, as most of the time there are always members browsing answering the questions on the forums. Plus by asking here your helping others that might have similiar problems, cause if you ask and it gets answered, its just adding to the information for others to search and find. But gaim should work for you, I like it better than the actual msn client as you can have multiple clients going, supports, AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and many others..

Everybuddy allows file transer between users.
Why not try that as well as Gaim? But if d/l files from buddies is what you're after, Everybuddy's the messenger for you.

Not to start any wars on IM programs but everybuddy in my opinion is one of the worst programs I have ever installed and used. It was quickly off my machine before a starved monkey could snatch a banana from my hand.

I strongly dislike it myself, since I can't read the fonts. But you can transfer files with it, which is why I suggested it. I think it's the only one that can.
I have no idea what's wrong with my apt but I'm unable to get amsn and licq so I'm stuck with gaim, (only because my mate said amsn is great for msn). Gaim is very confusing sometimes, it really is. But then again, so is msmsn.
