Question I need help installing fedora 17 (it was relesed today) very urgent


im on fedora 16 64 bit and I want to install fedora 17 i cant use the dvd drive it is broken this is very urgent

Yes, you may have asked questions you yourself consider stupid (even though we do not regard asking as stupid: not asking -=is=-) but whatever you do, please do not clear out posts you've made.

You have been here long enough to know that posting something as "urgent" is considered bad form---and may actually get you LESS help.

If it is really urgent, allow me to suggest buying or borrowing a working CD or DVD drive.

Does Fedora offer a net-install version---e.g. something that will fit on a USB stick?

If your DVD is broken, then install from USB: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to...d_use_Live_USB

Might consider an upgrade path.

It may be possible to do an inplace upgrade. Kind of a long process. A borrowed usb cd or usb flash is pretty easy.


Other choices are to boot to some other media, floppy, pxe or gpxe from some media.

Move hard drive to working system too.
