I need help bad....
ok here goes, i'm tring to install fedora core 3 onto my computer, I am tring to do a duel boot with windows XP, I've installed windows XP fine, and it works and everything. I've got my raid drives set up correctly (RAID 0 btw) now when i go to install fedora. I get the error An Error has occured no vald devices were foun into which create a new file system, please check your hardware for problems.
Ok, so i go around and serch the internet for a while, and I find out what RAID controller i have which happens to be ICH6R(chipset)(82801FR SATA RAID Controller) by Intel Corp. This is not an actual array card, its a built in controller card, that is software raid. Now heres the bad part, after searching on the internet for a while, I find this (i couldnt submit the link). It turns out that there is a Driver for my RAID controller, only, its a patch... A patch that requires that linux be INSTALLED before use. I need a way around this, I cant use another hard drive, and I cant spend more than 10 bucks on a new RAID controller, if anyone knows where i can get one that cheap...I thought of doing like a update on the install program, if that was possible, and someone told me i should build a custom kernel to install it, but I have no idea how, and how hard that is On another note, I am BRAND new to linux, if I cant get this working is there a Distro that actually supports the chipset/driver already in the install program, what would you recommend to a nub at linux? Basically what I want, is to just be able to get away from windows...as well as play counterstrike (so i'd need some wine info), and just learn what its about, not to mention start learning C++ with some good compliers ANY help would be greatly appreacted |
sorry, can't help you with your problem, but a small hint to get a reply:
use a title that tells your problem, so in this case for example: Intel 82801FR SATA RAID and FC3 Many of us get a mail listing the latest unreplied messages with their title and a thread called "HELP ME" is not read that often... |
