GrapefruiTgirl.........Yeah i tell you from the begining it would only recover those files which would be shown on preview.... But you can't say "but won't actually recover anything" It actually works i am a live user with this application got satisfactory results..I must say that this software is awesome according to my experience after using this tool neither a promoter... For any doubts why dont you use the free demo version which would not cost you anything then see the difference.

Because I don't use Windows, and do not have Windows installed anywhere. I haven't for several years.

I downloaded a demo of SP about 5-6 years ago, so I know what it looks like and what it claims to do.

If I were to need to recover some files from my Ext Linux filesystems (and I have in the past) I used the free, little tiny linux tool called "recover" and it worked just great, as does testdisk and photorec, to name a couple.

Mac users might have more money to throw at their lost data, I dunno (no offence Mac users) so maybe they want to try this software..

And many Windows users *might* not mind the risk of continuing to use their machine (or might not know of the risks) at the possible expense of their precious deleted files: browsing the internet, searching for non-working demo software from Stellar Phoenix, downloading & installing this demo software via Windows Installer, and running it, then browsing the internet some more, to send money to Stellar for a working version of their software, after which by this time, they may have overwritten their deleted files anyway.

Anyhow, we're dragging this off-topic:

To close this sidetrack:

The OP wanted a LiveCD to recover some files. He didn't ask for recommendations for crippleware that costs $60-100. And when planning to try to recover deleted or damaged files, the safe practice is to NOT continue using the machine, and to do the recovery operation from an external means (like a Live CD), NOT from the running operating system.

Kind regards,
Sasha

Anyway, since somebody mentioned Stellar Phoenix for doing Linux Data Recovery: it is nice to hear that some person had good results with this "Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery". However there's more LQ members making "it just works" posts. You see, some people have had no results at all (1, 2) or bad experiences with this "Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery" Piece Of Software. For anyone who thinks they should shell out cash for this Piece Of Software there's here's a comparison of results, do notice the "Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery" vs Photorec part.
