I made an error in xorg.conf - now I can't load x server

I made an error when trying to add a line to xorg.conf on Fedora 2. Now I can't load the x server because there's a parse errror in hte xorg.conf file. I can enter some type of dos-looking window where I can browse to the file using cd /etc/X11/

But I don't know how to open the file in and correct the mistake in the dos-lookalike window.

Could any body fill me in on how to do that..?

(I am pretty sure where I made the mistake in the xorg.conf file).

Any help is much appreciated!!

Sincerely,
Joe Belmaati

try:
pico xorg.conf

in the bar in pico see the commands. ^C = Ctrl + C

if you do not have pico, you 'll have vi.

do vi xorg.conf

vi is tricky.
move with the arrows.
if you want to delete something place the pointer under the char. and press delete.

if you want to insert something press i to enter the insert mode. After you finish with inserting press Esc to leave the insert mode.

type:
:q!
to exit without saving and
:wq
to save and exit

hi,

type "vim xorg.conf" (without the quotes).

you always get help for commands with
"man <Command>", in this case "man vim"

good luck

Thank you, that worked! (For my machine wq worked, qw didn't - and vi xorg.conf worked, not do vi xorg.conf)
