I know, I know... but please I cant my wheel mouse to work

Alright, I have searched and read many threads concerning this so I kinda feel better that Im not the only one having this issue. However, after trying to edit the XF86Config file all I manage to do is disable my mouse. I then have to work my way back to the control panel and reset it to PS/2 2 button and logoff and on again.

BTW, I keep seeing everyone say "restart x" but how do I do that? I guess Im doing it by logging off but can I do it from a shell?

Anyway, back to the wheel mouse issue: Please someone help me out and be very detailed in what I need to do, Im very green with Linux.

Im using Red Hat 9 and the mouse is a MS 2 button wheel mouse.

Hey thanks in advance to anyone that replies. :)

Have you tried rebooting? I have a similar problem like this. My Linuxbox (also RH9) was configured to use a USB mouse. After using it for quite some time, the mouse was kinda broken and the only replacement I have was a PS/2 mouse. What I did was to turn it off, plug the ps/2 mouse and during my linuxbox boot process, it detected a new hardware (a screen will pop-up...sorry but I forgot the name of the prog......it's like a plug and play utility that lets you configure the newly detected device....

Hope that helps...

Thanks for responding.

I did try and reebot after you mentioned it but it had no effect. The mouse is working fine other than no wheel function in any application.

Well, I take it back... After rebooting I tried the wheel function but it did not work initially. Just now though it did start working! ??? I'm thoroughly confused but its working so I'll count my blessing!

Ha ha! Man I feel dumb.
