I have trouble installing Linux ie CentOS on HP Elitebook 2760p, Which Linux flavor can I install

Hello

I have been using Windows OS for some time now. I have developed an interest in Linux. I am having trouble installing CentOS on my HP Elitebook 2760p. I have also tried Fedora 18 and nothing is happening. Which Linux distro can I use on my laptop?
I am running virtualbox and it is giving an error to the effect that, VFS cannot open root

Hi & welcome to LQ! Is the VBox *host* Win? Any/all 'should' work. More details?
That means it can't find the / 'root' device, usually /dev/sda1
Did you take all VBox defaults? rightCtrl+E will take a picture to post
http://24itworld.wordpress.com/2016/...cle-virtualbox Or pre-installed osboxes!

Your hardware should be supported by any Linux, so that's not the problem.

What happens when you run Fedora from the live disk? If that works, then your problem is with VirtualBox. Either way, you need to give us an exact, reasonably detailed account of what you did and what happened next.

If VirtualBox is troublesome, as it sometimes is, you may want to try VMware Workstation Player. I installed CentOS on it (+ Windows 98), and it works as it should.
