Hi, welcome to LQ!

And best of luck with that venture. How current is the hardware? The version
of Linux you're trying to install is - what, 9, 10 years old? - ancient indeed,
as you pointed out yourself. If the machine is more recent there's a pretty good
chance that it won't play nice, ever.

Cheers,
Tink

I kind of thought that it might've been a bad move...had hoped to load it then download a current version. Have now rendered xp unstable and do not know the commands using suze :(

The Dell i'm trying to load it on is about 6yrs old - if i try and get a recent version of suze (off a mag?) can i load that over the existing duff version? what prompt would i need to boot with that disc or can i just F2?

As you can see im a newie to this scene! (usually use Asus netbook preloaded with linux OS - have no idea what version it is)

Any suggestions / guidance please

Thanx

well, there's always yast (or yast2 - ot sure which was shipped
with 7.2), which has an ncurses interface that makes it quite
usable even for folk who don't know heir way around the command
prompt too well.
Btw, it's SuSE, not suze. No z ...

Sorry, i don't understand. What are you talking about, BIOS
keystrokes for your machine?
