I have no clue how to work Linux
someone installed Linux on my friends computer... she does not know how to use it... I dont know how... but when I looked at it... there was no icon for the cd-rom or floppy drive... I dont see how to install programs... I dont see how to run cd's .. I see no use for this system... and I know that there is.... I am LOST...

you arent asking a question here. give us information if you want help (to a _specific problem_) read this thread about asking a question the best way in order to get results you are looking for. - what distribution of linux is the computer running? ie SuSE, Mandriva, Ubuntu (it will say when it boots up). - what is the question(s)? |

You should also know that Linux is a different operating system from Windows, just like Mac is. For the most part, you won't be able to run any Windows program on Linux, although there are programs similar to Windows programs that you can use. It seems like that is what you are talking about with your mention of cds.

For the absolute new-to-Linux user, google up a copy of 'Newbies Linux Manual'. It got me started when I decided to make the switch from windows.
Then google up a copy of 'Rute Users Tutorial and Exposition'. Both are good reads. You will learn quite a lot from them. |
