LinuxQuestions.org - I have just installed Ubunto 8.10 on to a Dell E521 , the CD will not play any music

My CD driver will not play music, you can install programs with it and it is recognized by the computer. When you put up Alsa Player or RhythumBox neither will play a cd nor will it play a file loaded on the desktop. I have run through the setup in system perferences and tested the sound card and it makes the test sounds and the mic works as well. The sound card will not play any system sounds. The sound card is a SOUND BLASTER

I have played with Linux before and wasn't happy with it but this time I was delighted at how quickly I was able to set up Ubuntu and all of my periferals are working properly and I have know made the shift to Linux and I am going to stay with it Your help with the sound card and CD player issue would be greatly appreciated. I even have my dual monitors working properly it is amazing!!!
