I have been having trouble with my VLC media player not responding when I click on it to play.
It is not just the vlc media player. I have installed 2 others, mpv and xine with the same problem. They work the first time and then will not reload. I amd running opensuse leap 42.1. any suggestions!

have you been using the same movie file to test this with?
have you tried re sampling the movie file (handbrake) to insure that it is not the file itself that is damaged?

What do you mean by "not responding"?
Are you saying that when you view it once you can never view it again without problems?
Are you saying that you do see the movie play correctly at least once?

Do you mean when you click on the VLC icon, or when you click on a movie file?

when I click on the vlc icon. after I have finished a movie and shut off vlc and return to play another movie clicking on the icon does nothing. this happened the same way to the other media players I have installed, they will work fine one time and then after one time I get no responce when clicking the icon to start the movie or music.

It may have never exited. In the system tray does there appear to be a musical note icon? Another option would be to open a terminal window and type, "ps -ef | grep vlc" If it finds more than the ps command you've issued, this means vlc is still running, perhaps stuck or just never exited from your last time using it. This is not ideal, however it would be helpful to know whether or not this is happening.
