I have a problem....HELP

As you all know I'm new here. Well anyway, here's the problem. I just got Slackware 8.1 in a cd and I want to install it into my computer. I am currently running windows XP Pro and I want to run both XP and Slackware onto my system. I heard you need to do a dual boot, something like that, but I'm not too much fimiliar with that. Anywayz, can you guys give me a step by step procedure to install Slackware 8.1 while still keeping my Windows XP settings and not wiping out all the data? It would be greatly appreciated if you guys can help me out. Thanks.

My regards,
Luxnova.

Hi, and welcome to LQ!

Slack is a minimalist distro. Unlike some others out
there it DOESN'T come with tools for re-partitioning.

You'll either need to have PQ Magic or grab a live-CD
distro with parted and/or ntfsresize on it.

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: Try to pick a smarter thread title next time ;)
Help - I have a problem doesn't really mean much,
and people who may have specific answers would
spot your thread more easily if the title were something
like: "I want to install slackware, how do I keep XP
intact?"

Now I am not one to usually do this straight away...... but I think you need to do some of your own research here. First off, Slackware isn't as user friendly as other distro's so if you are confused at the installation, maybe you need to look into this a little further.

Also if you want a faster response, you need to share relevant info regarding your setup. For instance, how many hd's do you have? Are you using linux already? Does Xp use the entire drive or is it already partitioned? Etc
