I have a broadcom card....but from what I've seen....

There is no way to get it activated with linux, it doesn't have the same driver, most of the drivers from windows that I have seen end with a five, this one ends with a 6 instead. Here is the lspci info I got on the card
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01)

I'm running a dual boot with windows vista/ubuntu, please help? I can't stand vista, it drives me up the wall!

I have the identical card on a Compaq F730. It has been a pain to configure on many distros but it works perfectly with mandriva 2008.1 using ndiswrapper. It will not work with the open source bcm43xx broadcom driver that most distros will use by default so don't even go there. You can download mandriva 2008.1 here:

With ndiswrapper I'm using bcmwl5 so even though my card has the same lspci output it may be a different card. If you have a bcmwl6.inf file with your windows driver instead of a bcmwl5.inf file, I would try using the bcmwl6.inf file with ndiswrapper first.

ok,so I should use mandriva rather than ubuntu? What are the major differences if you don't mind me asking, as well as this question, how do I install and use ndiswrapper? Also, I can't seem to view the BCMWL6.SYS when booted up into Ubuntu, I'm very very new to linux, I have installed redhat on another person's system but have never used it, but as I stated before I can't stand vista.

Ok I found the drivers and got it working, I appreciate your help :3
