i have a asus eee 701sd on linux,but have forgotten passord to bios ho can i retreive

If you lost bios password there are some sites that have the manufacturer bios password & guarantee that they work. If it's under warrantee you can send back to asus, try to clear thru cmos or buy the password.

Not really anything Linux related (since the system isn't even booting up), but there are many solutions that Google can point you to, and the Asus website has suggestions too.

Some mobos have a "reset" jumper, but since it's a laptop/netbook, I don't think this is feasible, or if the jumper is even there.

I've heard that opening it up and removing the CMOS battery for a few hours (maybe longer, I'd leave it for a day or two) can clear the BIOS password. But since this is a laptop/netbook, that will probably be a real pain in the butt to do. On the other hand, you might be looking for an excuse to crack open a laptop...
