I get no sount after alsaconf when alright and alsamixer as well

Hello
First I would like to say that i am new to linux and especially at debian.
I configure my sound card with alsa and i got no errors at all.
The output of : modinfo soundcore is :
==========================================================
filename: /lib/modules/2.4.27-2-386/kernel/drivers/sound/soundcore.o
description: "Core sound module"
author: "Alan Cox"
license: "GPL"
======================================================
the problem is that gnome control volume is empty and i can not raise the volume.
if i try to play a sound at XMMX is givving me the error:
=============================
Please check that:
Your soundcard is configured properly
you have the correct output pluging selected
no other problem is blocking the sound card.
======================================================
I have spent lots of days try to figure out what it is but i cant.

If anyone could help be it would be really great.

Thanks in advance,
Giannis

I'm not sure if I really understand your problem, but did you make sure that the sound wasn't muted? It is by default for me.

to double check, open a konsole and type alsamixer
press M on each volume control to unmute it, and the up and down arrow keys to increase/decrease the volume.

sorry if this isn't what you asked for.

With alsaconf, you get an option to select the appropriate sound card. Have you tried that properly?

Do you see the card when you do alsaconf?

giannisapatis 02-21-2006 05:29 AM

Yes it does.

When i do alsaconf the card appears alright and i set it up alright. When i do alsamixer i have raise the volume and i am sure its no muted.
If i go and click Applications< Multimedia< Volume Control this whole window of the volume control is empty,there are no tabs to adjust the volume there at all.
Yes i have done alsaconf and alsamixer properly but still there is no sound at all.
I dont understand at all what is happening ::o :(

What is the name of the card you see under alsaconf?

Does it match with what you have physically?

giannisapatis 02-21-2006 10:36 AM

Yes its exactly the same

It is exactly the same my friend, its the name of the sound card i got a creative one.

Maybe you got the sollution for me me friend??

I think i found it.

I found a guy that had the same problem but when he installed gstreamer0.8-plugins it was completely fixed.
the problem is that is i try to do apt-get -f install gstreamer0.8-plugins i get the following error :
====================================================================
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gamin: Depends: libgamin0 (= 0.0.26-0ubuntu3) but it is not going to be installed
gnome-panel: Depends: gnome-menus (>= 2.9.4) but it is not going to be installed
libgnomevfs2-0: Depends: libgnomevfs2-common (>= 2.10.0-0ubuntu5) but 2.8.4-4 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
debian:/home/giannis/Desktop/java# apt-get -f install gstreamer0.8-alsa

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:

maybe you can help me how to meet htese dependencies??

THanks for all the effort,
Giannis

Check if the program uses OSS or ALSA, and that you have whatever it uses.
