I feel stoopid
Hi
I'm having a problem with redhat 9 boot disk....I'm trying to install it......it won't. In what format is it best to boot? I've never even made a boot disk before, but do know what there for. So you can see how much of a newbie I am. :confused: I'm serious |
just get the isos, and burn them using any burn prog;
the isos were created so that they are bootable, so you won't have to do anything special to make them bootable. |
only one thing, take care of burning the isos with the option "create image" (if you are using nero)
|
Thanx 4 that. But I've used both burning as a 'Boot Disk' & multi session My m8 suggested Burn as an image file. though he doesn't know Linux.

On my W2K system, in order to burn an iso with nero to create a CD that is bootable, after it starts you kill the 'new compilation' dialogue, go to the 'file' menu and select 'burn image' there. And then when it asks you for the .nrg file, just ignore that and use the .iso filename.
Assuming, of course, you aren't talking about using a boot floppy if your CD drive is not bootable via a BIOS setting. What are the exact steps you are using? Do you have nero available on a windows machine? Etc..?? Also, just for your info, this thread probably should have been in the Linux - Newbie forum, or the Linux - General Forum. Linux from Scratch is a project thing, http://www.linuxfromscratch.org Regards.... |
Moved: Not a LFS specific question.
Also in the future, try to make better and more helpful thread titles. Yours doesn't exactly describe your specific problem. Thanks. |
just make sure you burn the Red Hat 9 as an .iso file, and make sure that your BIOS knows to boot from CD. If those two things are right you should be able to boot the ISO.
That's about all I had to do. Hope this helps. |
