I did it!!

Yes!

So i finally got the nerve to install VirtualBox and i have Fedora 16 loading at the moment. I've been watching TrainSignal videos which are guiding me through the steps.

You can bash and say what you would like... lol. I am just excited i finally made progress. I understand this may be very small in progress, but i AM on my way to learning and understanding linux better.

Does anyone have any cool projects i can start with? installing apache web server and things like that?

I hope to learn lots from everyone.

Congratulations in sussefully installing VirtualBox and Fedora in it. If you want to start in a project I would suggest you to start by learning how to use Fedora for everyday tasks or for whatever you use windows.

Good luck to you!

Seconded! Prove to yourself how much of your daily computing you can achieve without Microsoft. This will build your confidence with the OS and will naturally lead on to all the other things you can do.

Oh and well done for making the first step!

I was going to say the same. :)

Anyways, welcome to the world of Gnu/Linux notlinuxsavy, and welcome to LQ. Here you will find many people with a varying levels of experience, but most wanting to do there best to help you.
As for projects; what you should do is learn linux jargon and some other small things; for example, the following.

What is 'Linux'
What is 'Gnu'
What's Free software
The difference between Free software and Open source software
What root is
What a text editor is and how to open one as root
How software is installed in linux
learn to install software from the command line
what is a .rpm, and a .deb
teach you self about the different locations your bootloader can be installed and the advantages of each.
swap distributions to a .deb based distro
learn to manage the .deb based distro as well as you managed Fedora

Those things are very basic, but helpful. There could be heaps of little things like this but i can't be stuffed listing one thousand
so there's twelve. lol. Good luck mate.
