Did you try getting to the virtual terminal? On the login screen, press CTRL+ALT+Fn (could be F1 or F2). You will get a text login. Try your password there. It is possible something went GUI. If you are able to get in through command line, you will atleast have more options in your hand to think about ...

Nice step to make, anyway you can reset you password from your bootloader ...

take a look at this article :

http://linuxgazette.net/107/tomar.html

Note : do not use " passwd root " since you do not want to change your root password, instead issue " passwd yourusername ".

I hope that helped.

is there anyway it can be reinstall ubuntu by the command

Janus_Hyperion 06-01-2012 07:34 PM

Well, the idea is not to have to reinstall the OS if it can be solved by simpler ways. Of course, you could install ubuntu using any of the available media or in one of the other ways.

It means to go to the link above the J.A.X posted where the members username is nonamedot.

IT MEANS (SIMPLY) THAT THERE IS NO COMMAND TO REINSTALL, TO REINSTALL WITHOUT CD or DVD MEDIA, YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW nonamedot LINK.

i have added ubuntu onto a usb using what ubuntu provided on the webpage what would i do to boot it to my netbook

J.A.X 06-01-2012 08:14 PM

Just plugin your usb and reboot.

if that did't work (the usb stick did not boot), try to enter your mother board boot list and boot the usb stick.

that depends on your mother board, I hit F2 to get the boot menu.

jordanjw, I'm glad the problem is solved, but please use punctuation in your posts. It's very difficult to read text that's essentially one long sentence.
