i cant boot into user mode

hello all

I've installed linux to dual boot with win xp pro and think from the very beginning i royally screwed things up.
You see i tried to install Mandrakelinux 10 onto my second drive (with all my pics and things i did not want to loose (ever) boohoo but when i went to partition the drive i hit the clear all button ,now i can't see the drive through windows,it not there, first question, did i erase all i had on there and is there a way to get this info back.
Next on the list, when finally got linux installed (i thought)and went to boot linux up but all i got was a blank screen ,so being me (impatient) i installed it again on my second drive using the KDE interface, but that still did not work soooooooooooo,i installed it on my windows drive ,partitioned the drive and installed .
I can now get a boot into screen but can only boot into root using x.
i gone through the install a few timeusing expert and setup the root user account and single user account but when i go to log into user the password cursor will not move when i type in the password so it keeps coming up with invalid password.
Did i screw this up big time ,is there any way to remove linux from my disks and start all over again without formating my drives.
If anyone can help i will be forever in your dept(OK not for ever but if i can ever help i will)
thanks

ps:the bootloger is set in the mbr.

Well I am sorry to say it but I think that you have last your pictures, there is ways to get the Data off HD but not if you have installed something over it. If you would have just deleted the partition then it would have been ok cause the Data would all still be there and there are programs to get it.

As for your login question, can you log into the gui with root? And I don't understand what not being able to move the mouse has to do with typing your pass in wrong.
