I cannot receive any mail into INBOX using PINE
Hi,
I am new with PINE. I can send mail using PINE to hotmail or gmail account, but I cannot receive any mail from hotmail or gmail account. For example, an email from: YinFang Zhuang (yzhua3@netlab.uky.edu), to: yinfang (superlegend_zyf@hotmail.com). However, after I replied back, I was unable to receive this replied email in INBOX using PINE. So what should I configure about PINE in order to receive mail? |

Hello,
Is the account that PINE is checking a local, POP, or IMAP account? The setup directions are different for each, but I can give you the general setup if you let us know which kind of account you are checking. It appears that you have working postfix servers accepting the email for netlab.uky.edu and that you only need to figure out how to check the account where the mail is being stored. Does uky.edu have a local help desk that can assist you? They are probably the best source of information for the configuration needed to check your account. -Raymond |
Thanks for your quick reply.
I plugged in my laptop computer in my dorm. And the "From" address appeared as "yzhua3@ubuntu.resnet.uky.edu". So when I sent any mail to hotmail or gmail account, PINE worked pretty well. However when I replied back, I got the following message: This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE. Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed. yzhua3@ubuntu.resnet.uky.edu When I clicked "SETUP --> CONFIG", the following info was shown. I did not change anything in the .pinerc file. personal-name = <No Value Set: using "yzhua3"> user-domain = <No Value Set> smtp-server = <No Value Set> nntp-server = <No Value Set> inbox-path = inbox incoming-archive-folders = <No Value Set> pruned-folders = <No Value Set> default-fcc = <No Value Set: using "sent-mail"> default-saved-msg-folder = <No Value Set: using "saved-messages"> postponed-folder = <No Value Set: using "postponed-msgs"> read-message-folder = <No Value Set> form-letter-folder = <No Value Set> literal-signature = <No Value Set> signature-file = <No Value Set: using ".signature"> I really do not know the reason for this. I am still quite new at Ubuntu and PINE. I really appreciate it if you can give me some hints to solve it. Regards, Yinfang |
you can check the mail logs if your the admin of the mail server to verify the cause of the problems. otherwise you need to check it with the admin. remember, don't ever mess with the admin for they are root.
