I just installed Fedora core 3 on a dual boot setup...im new to all this im a windows guy...at the end of the setup it asked if i wanted to set a username and password but i didn't want one and just skipped it. Now when i try to load Fedora it asks for a USERNAME AND PASSWORD, since i don't have one is there a default username and password i don't know about or maybe a way to get around this!!!
Please help!!!
try username: root, and leave the password empty (or enter whatever password you setup for root/superuser/admin). if you can log in as root, then the first thing you should do is
adduser
follow the instructions to create a new user for yourself, then exit and log back in with that user.
thanks for te help, but now that i see how stupid it is to even try to install a single piece of hardware on linux such as my dlink dwl 520 wireless network card and my sound card i'm just giving up with linux and all it's different versions. I'm sorry but I shouldn't have to learn how to go througfh and edit files to make it work anywhere near correctly. Who are you trying to fool this is supossed to be the easiest version of linux available and everywhere i go tells me that i need to do at least 20 different things and even then it wont work right because you have to go somewhere else and try to force it work with linux. Please alert me when a version of linux that is user friendly comes out, because right now it's not worth the work just to get sound and internet working correctly!!! If anyone finds a self installing dwl 520 driver zip file please post me because this is just to much effort to get it to work in any way!!!
knoppix is supposed to be really good at automagically configuring hardware. mandrake and suse too. you can boot knoppix off a cd, see if you like it or if it configures things for you, and if it does just install it.
I had knoppix it didn't work on my machine the monitor wouldn't even turn on because it didn't recognize my voodoo 3 graphics card.
But thanks for the help
I am a total newbie into the linux world, and I was a little scared when I was
going to install SuSe 9.2 on a new machine bought for this purpose, but I
was really surprised how smooth it was going nearly every thing was working
from the beginning, the only problem is with the graphic card the 3D
accelerator are I not able to get up running, as I understand it, it is the
hardware there are the problem #1.
yeah ATI cards in particular are tough. i've never bothered setting up 3D acceleration, so i won't be much help to you. my suggestion is use the standard VESA driver to get up and running. if you really want to play games in linux you can set up your ATI card later, when you've at least learned your way around a bit.
