I can't find WORD COUNT in Open office! ahh where is it/


Hello everyone i have to write a 750-1000 word essay but i don't see a word count on Open OFfice!! anyone knjow where it is on that program? I can't seem to figure out how to run Word with WINE! THanks! KDE 3.4 I'm using OpenOffice 1.1.5

well in openoffice 2.x you goto tools\word count
not sure about the older versions

Goto File - Properties. The word count is under the Statistics tab.

This is one problem with (particularly the older versions of) openoffice. The user interface is not very intuitive for newbies. Once you know where things are, then it is easy to use.

If it is a text-file (.txt or something) you can do it in a commandline with:
wc -w <text-file>

muha, i used that method! I need to get a newer version of open office! Is it free to download and install?

Yep it is, i would imagine it's available through urpmi (if you are updating your packages with this it should have done it already...)

Smile Not just for linux

Hi all, just bought a new imac and installed Office 2008 for mac in os leopard. I couldnt find word count either until i read this forum and then i too "discovered it" in properties!
