Yes, no harm in admitting that I am very much influenced by your signature, how one line can describe a lot! Some others have very thoughtful and exclusive signatures, too. Not to mention I like mine, too ! (lol)

By the way, @ubuntunew has your problem resolved? @TobiSGD I think your last post had the safest and the most obvious solution considering the problem and also considering even tougher situation can arise.

I just reread your post.
What error did FDISK give you?
Do you have a sufficiently large second disk that you can clone the primary disk to, to try safe recovery?

@ubuntunew Please update your situation and mark the thread as "solved" if your problem is resolved; else post your current status.

I have no good answers other then I went through this problem a lot at first. The easiest solution is to keep /home on a separate partition so that when this happens you can easily fresh install and have your data be there. Just thought it was worth a mention in case of a next time.

Ubuntu 10.10 is a bad choice, since it is also totally unsupported. If you want to go for Ubuntu you should use the LTS releases, like 12.04 LTS. 12.04 LTS is supported til 2017.

If your issue is solved please mark this thread as solved using the thread tools at the top of the thread.

Only the server version. Desktop support ends in april 2015.

Nope, ubuntu has dropped 3/5 (desktop/server) support for 12.04 LTS. 12.04 support is 5 years, desktop or server.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

*edit- not every package in 12.04 or even *buntu version of 12.04 will get 5 years support. Lubuntu 12.04 is just a 'normal release' with 18 months support....

An elemetary question: wht's he matter about support? What does it mean that Lubuntu has 18 months of support? What will it be after that?

After its 18 months run out, its at the least going to be vunerable to security problems.
