How can I move a NTFS partion on Windows XP?

Can you explain further on that? What do you really want to do? u mean move your data to another partition or you want to resize NTFS partition to make space for linux?

There's a tool called ntfsresize:
http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/man/ntfsresize.html http://mlf.linux.rulez.org/mlf/ezaz/ntfsresize.html |
um... can you give me a direct link? I can't find one. :twocents:
|
Which distrobution of linux are you using?
|
Red Hat 9
|
You are looking for parted
There is a tool called parted that does the job.
There also exists some frontend programs e.g. QTparted - take a look at http://qtparted.sourceforge.net/ for details |
Parted does NTFS resize?
|
um... I have http://www.ranish.com/part/ but don't know how to work it... :(
|
Ranish doesn't look like it can do ntfs resizing. You will need to boot linux with your cd or a boot disk, then use it to run ntfsresize.
|
one problem. I can't even get linux on it...
|
You need to just boot, not install. The Red Hat cd may have a rescue option somewhere that lets you boot a small linux from the cd. Read the docs on the cd to find out how to use it.

just use partition magic, resize the ntfs partition (create unallocated space), and install linux in the unallocated space. piece of cake, Ive done it dozens of times...

When I had this problem, my Windows XP was blown up anyway, so I ended up FDISKing from an old Win98 startup disk, creating a partition for XP, and one for Linux. Then formatting in NTFS the partition for XP. Inelegant, but it worked.
