I can't burn data cd's or iso's with K3b!?!?!? Error code 254 WTF!?!?!?!?
Hello everyone, I downloaded the mandrake 10.0 official iso's last night and i'm trying to burn them with k3b in mandrake 10.0 community on a hp753n with a Plextor PX-708UF +-R dvd/cd burner and it won't work. Prior to this, I burned all my data (about 101 mb worth) in mandrake that I wanted to keep over to the official distro and it worked fine, even verified the data and everything was there. But when I try to burn a iso cd or data cd for each of the almost 700mb iso files, i get these errors:
Medium or burner do not support writing at 2x speed
Switching down burn speed to 0x
input/output error. not neccessarily serious
input/output error. not neccessarily serious
cdrecord returned an unknown error (Code 254)
Unknown error 254
Please send me an e-mail with the last output
Even when I try to burn at 1x speed I get the same errors with these lines also:
Probably a buffer underrun occured
Please choose a lower burning speed
That was at the lowest speed and it still didn't work. Burning in windows with Nero is flawless for me. I tried to burn the iso's as data cds so i could burn them as images in Nero on XP but K3b won't let me burn! Is there a way that I can access these iso's from winXP so I could burn them in Nero? If so, please explain. I am a newbie at linux.
Here is the debug output if it makes any sense to you.

You may want to try installing the actual cdrecord, as you are using the cdrecord-clone. The clone gave me MANY issues in the past, all of which were fixed by removing it and installing the actual cdrecord.
Do you see anything if you go to the Settings menu, then Configure K3b, and then click the Devices button? If not, try clicking the Add Device button and adding it manually. Also, you should check, in that same area, the Programs button. See what is says in the list for cdrecord. It should say the path is /usr/bin/cdrecord, but check the version as well and see if it's using the one you think it is. I say this because in the cdrecord message of the first post, you'll notice this (look at the last line)...
