I can't activate (i'mean activate) my wireless card

Hello

I know this may sound stupid but i have insalled opensuse on an old hp computer and the on/off wireless card button is dead.

Could somebody help me activate my wireless card from somewhere else than the k-board .

sory first times on linux but all the texts i've read are about script and not about hardware activating since i'm a first timer i can't find what i'm suposed to do

note: the wireless card was running under my old windows 2000 which has now been removed from the computer

So do i need to
Reinstall the pilot or
is there a command i just can't get my hands on?

Thank you

first try this as root in the konsole:
Code:
 ifconfig -a
or

Code:
 iwconfig
and post the result here.

Second specify what kind of wireless card is it (manufacturer, chip).

Third, what opensuse you have installed: 9.0, 9.3, 10, 10.2, 10.3?

Usually, not all wireless cards are recognized on linux boxes. The on/off button don't work if you haven't bind that key.

Ok, your laptop doesn't recognize your wifi card.

One trip to http://www.opensuse.org and found this:
http://en.opensuse.org/Wireless_netw...29_2100.2F2200

Try it and if you have problems come back.
