I am not exactly a linux newby but I am to these forums. I am using Ubuntu 11.04

can anyone tell me how or if I can install windows XP on a 2nd disk keeping windows separate to Ubuntu disk> I should know but have forgotten about it . I do have to put windows on as I need drawing programs that will not run under Wine efficiently
Thank you very much for any help you can give.

regards
Donald.

Windows won't install on a secondary disk - not like you want anyway.
Simplest is to disconnect the Linux disk, and do the XP install. Put the Linux disk back, and run update-grub (sudo for Ubuntu). That way you *know* nothing can go wrong.
Else just change the BIOS boot order to ensure the XP disk is first. That should be safe too.

Hi Donald,
You might want to use a better title for your threads; one that gives information about your question. In this case "How do I install Windows on a second harddisk" would be a better bet.
What "drawing program" do you need and are you sure there isn't a linux equivalent? In most cases there is.

jdk

Thank you jdkaye for you helpful reply .
in my defence I wrote for the first time and rather than straight to the thread as I said I am new to this forum.
and took a short cut to my problem at the same time. in future I will direct my questions Or threads more precisely thank you once again and I trust to be able to talk to you more often.

donald

With no disrespect intended, I have no idea what you're talking about in your first sentence. "straight to the thread"? "shortcut"? You really lost me there.

I guess you didn't like or understand my question? ;)
