Sometimes I run a game server, all i can suggest is trying to get more upload bandwidth. 288k up may support about 2-3 players with an acceptable ping.

In my opinion switching to a linux server would not really help, but if anyone else thinks differently then just say

Linux will probably not help your pinging problem but it would certainly help in other ways. Would probably make the system more stable and there are always many people willing to help you at the LQ. So if you have the time to get a linux server up i would do it but it probably won't fix your problem. Because as pete123 said it seems like a bandwicth problem and linux will not really affect your bandwidth.

Thanks for that guys or gals. Does anyone know of a isp that provides a larger bandwidth. If not please could you tell me what the hell linux is and if anyone knows what text scripting or whatever, for running a games server. supposed to be alot quicker cos it does not use the system for graphics and stuff. Sorry to be so stupid i have only been in the business about a month and cant find any one to help. Must be a Cornish thing.

Thanks again.

If you are trying to find out about linux maybe visit a site such as

linux.org

About the text scripting, probs when you setup your game server you will load the game, click on a menu that says "create new multi-player game" or the likes and then choose options. The text based scripting maybe means you write a config file with all the game options in it so each time you start a game you do not have to choose all the options again, and in some cases using a text based config file gives more control over the game setup
