I am looking for a good operation system that would work in my acer veriton M670G
 

i was haveing pretty good luck with it and windows 7 un till i took it to a shop and they told me it the dvd drive was mest up and it really need a good going over and that is when it started to mes up and would not take the product key any more i think there is something mest up in the bios it don`t bring up the welcom screen any more nor dose it say press any key to boot up the cd and i am getting sick of every 29 days removing windows 7 and reinsaling it and sick of MS and there product keys can i down a free operation system from you and wount half to worie about product keys thank you

First of all, can you please edit your post and spell check it, along with adding proper punctuation? I can barely understand what you are trying to say..... As far as what I somewhat understand, head over to distrowatch.com and check out the many distros of linux. I recommend you try out Ubuntu, but the final decision is yours.

You may want to try a linux live cd/dvd to see it will pick it up. Also you could try a usb with linux on it.

Try an Ubuntu live distro first.

Windows 7 'doesnt take the product key anymore'? Its possible (I'd say 'probable') that you've got some issue with WPA (Windows Product Activation).

I dont think that changing CD/DVD drive alone would stop WPA from working, normally you need to change multipule parts at once (or change motherboard) for WPA not work. I wouldnt be suprised if the people you got to 'repair' your computer changed more than just the DVD drive....

Yeah, so I just re-read this post. Cascade9 may be right. When you say welcome screen, do you mean the boot splash?If you aren't seeing the same things on boot as what you used to it's possible they swapped your motherboard. Of course that's not the only possibility. They could have flashed the bios. This may be your problem as well. The only other reason the boot splash would be different is if they turned it off. However there would be no reason to do that. I think you need to go back to this shop and find out exactly what they did.

I still say make the switch to Linux, but it sounds like they owe you a new copy of windows 7. I would collect.

Cascade and mrefff are on the money with the last two posts. Sounds like something has gone awry with the "repair job", I'd be following that up.

If you get nowhere with the above suggestion try I'd DebianLive off a DVD and see if that works. While Ubuntu is possibly a good choice, don't now now wont use it myself after being a tester for 3 years, it does sometimes have difficulty with certain hardware. Debian is a good all round choice and is rock solid stable even though it can take some fiddling to setup (but then again so can Windows, Ubuntu, Fedora etc.)
