I've got "patch-2.6.2.bz2"... now what?
Newbie question: I've got the file from kernel.org: patch-2.6.2.bz2 but what do I do now to upgrade from my 2.4.20 kernel on RedHat 9.1? I have never successfully compiled a kernel and I'd really need some good directions. The HOW-TO on kernels on LinuxOnline is now gone so I'm really feeling like I'm up a creek without a paddle. How come there is no real good step-by-step for upgrading a kernel? Especially with 2.6 out. I expected more. Oh well. So what do I do with this mysterious file now that I've so easily downloaded it from kernel.org? Also, would I be better off with a "2.6 ready" distro like Fedora Core 1? If so, how can I upgrade RH 9.1 to Fedora Core 1?
