I had a lot of problems with SaX2 configuring my videocard for me. I ended up doing it by hand to make it work. I have a very similar setup gForce 4 MX440, and I wasn't getting video either. I removed a lot of extraneous junk that SaX2 put in the XF86Config file, such as the modes section. The Screen Section covers that anyway, and with XFree86 4.3, I don't think there is any need for them. What I have for Screen, Device, Monitor and ServerLayout follows:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "DevInputMice" "AlwaysCore"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Generic Monitor, 1280x1024 @ 60 Hz"
HorizSync 31.5 - 64.3
VertRefresh 50.0 - 70.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 4 (generic)"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
This worked for me anyway...

put in the load GLcore command, (look at the sticky thread at the top of this forum for more info)
follow those directions exactly and all should be well

he already has the OpenGL stuff he needs loaded in his modules section. If you look at his modules section, he has the load "glx" line embedded. with the NVidia drivers, "GLCore" should not be loaded.

I've struggled here, tried lots and failed. I'm getting more success if I work with the SaX2. I have 3D acceleration showing that it's enabled under SaX2 but it's not. SaX2 didn't have a choice for my monitor, Acer AcerView 54e. I posted my XF86Config file before when I used Mandrake 9.1. I got the specs for it there so I'm using a custom monitor. I'm thinking of going back to Mandrake though. SuSe is cool and all, and has lots of software but it dosn't have much support for my hardware. Here's my config file as it is now. Everything works well except for the 3D acceleration.

alright! It's working!
I have the driver downloaded from nvidia already so I didn't go to the site to get it. Last time I was there, I was using Mandrake. Anyway, I went to nvidia.com to see if there was other files or something and found a link for all suse users to suse.com with instructions on how to install. During the install before, it mentioned about setting IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH because I was using a different compiler then what compiled my kernel. I wasn't sure so I asked here. The suse help file said type this.
Code:
export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=yes
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run
I did and everything is well.
Thank you so much LQ.
