I've had tried many distros of linux out for a couple of days I've been lost


I have an 475 MHz k6-2 cpu HP N3270 which os is the best?

Hi, welcome to LQ!

With those specs: the smaller the better.... how much RAM do you have?

Have a look at puppy or DSL (damn small linux).

Hi! Probably http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=tinycore . It's one of the lightest out there.

This laptop comes originally with 64MB RAM, AFAIK, so I would not recommend to run a distro that runs in RAM if you still have that low amount of RAM. May be something like antiX will work, they claim to be able to run in 64 MB. If you have more RAM this may change my distro reommendations, so please post the specs of your machine.
