I'm in major trouble. Keeps runnig out of memory!

Ok major problem. Running in console, I can't start X in root nor can I run any of my personal shell scripts (which I have ALOT of). I've ran top ps du df and I have like 91 mb of RAM and 188 mb of SWAP. But SWAP isn't being used! Nor is any memory shared. It is overloading everything onto RAM and when I execute a shell script or something that takes a lot of RAM WHAM it starts "Out of Memory : Killing process..." from sendmail (usually the first) to xfs even to bash. No no no that can't be right but I can't find anything to fix it! I'm running Linux Red Hat 9.0 and not sure of hardware specifics (a friend set it up for me) but I do have a partitioned hard drive between Win200 Pro and Linux 9.0 runnnig GRUB for boot loader kernel version 9.4.20-20.9 SHRIKE. If anyone can help me please I'm using my linux box so that I don't have to be dependant on my freak XP anymore. email me at dmahlon20022002@yahoo.com PLEASE ANY ONE HELP!

Could you post some actual error output (from running an app, script or look in logfiles), your kernel version and running "top -b -d 5" for say 30 secs before til after an OOM occurred and "chkconfig --list" and "ps ax"?

Alright I think the kernel is 2.4.20-20.9. I ran all the other commands but I couldn't find any log files. Any certain place I should look? The only error out put is that is when I run a script it just comes up Out of Memory : Killing .... then when it gets all done it returns to the command line. Oh crap....! I'm running in console. I'll adjust it on my post. Work with me here please I'm still waking up. Thanks for your help

Ok big reply I just figured out. I can run shell scripts X or any dang thing else in normal users I want but root can't do squat! It seems that is where all the problems are at. I don't log into root often enough so I'm not too sure when it started
